Mowing

Higher cutting heights usually provide for a deeper root system. The lawn will also look better and is less likely to have weeds invade. Do not remove more than one third of the grass leaf at any one cutting. When mowing at this height you can safely leave the clippings behind, they will quickly decompose and add nutrients back into the soil. Mower blades should be kept sharp throughout the growing season. It also helps to mow your lawn in a different direction with each mowing. Altering the direction ensures a more even cut and less likely to develop into a set pattern. Try to avoid mowing when the grass is wet.
